Squires Barnett Architects have been appointed to design to convert a former gatehouse in a contemporary four bedroom dwelling. Located in the heart of the Gosforth Conservation Area.
Our design is focused on obscuring an adjacent and unsympathetic neighbouring building, through a contemporary new wing. The wing, which is a shadow of the existing in form, uses an unashamedly contemporary material envelope to create a three-sided courtyard. This creates an enclosed arrival space and allows each of the habitable rooms dual aspect over two garden ‘rooms’. Housed within the extension is a dramatic kitchen-family room which is linked to the main-building by an elegant glazed corridor. The existing building houses a study, double height snug, and a spectacular master bedroom suite together with three additional bedrooms and home gymnasium.
The project gained unanimous planning approval in August 2017.
